About Briter

Briter is a London-based business intelligence company focused on emerging markets. We support investors, development finance institutions, corporates, foundations, and public institutions in understanding how markets function in practice. Our work goes beyond headline data, focusing on how sectors are structured, how value chains operate, who the key actors are, where opportunities are emerging, and what constraints shape growth. We combine proprietary data, sector mapping, market research, and advisory to deliver structured insights across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Our clients rely on us to make informed strategic decisions, enter new markets, deploy capital, design programmes, and benchmark ecosystems.

Briter operates with a globally distributed team from Asia to Latin America, expanding steadily, with increasing complexity in both client base and delivery scope. Maintaining clarity, pace, and high standards as we scale is central to this next phase of growth.

Role overview

The Chief of Staff works closely with the Founder and across all departments to strengthen execution discipline and organisational alignment. The CoS operates across departments to ensure agreed priorities are executed coherently and on time. The role includes authority to reset timelines, sequence initiatives or escalate execution risks whenever delivery conflicts with company-wide priorities or capacity realities. It is an ideal position for senior professionals operating in research, data, business intelligence, and high-growth organisations who are looking to transition to highly strategic, client- and ecosystem-facing, and fast-paced roles. The role focuses on:

  • Translating company priorities into structured execution plans
  • Enforcing sequencing across departments
  • Managing trade-offs where capacity and timeframes are constrained
  • Reducing fragmentation between growth, product and delivery

Responsibilities

Company-Level Execution

  • Define structured quarterly execution plans aligned with company priorities
  • Establish milestones, ownership and performance tracking
  • Run monthly progress reviews focused on delivery against plan
  • Surface trade-offs and opportunity costs when new initiatives arise
  • Halt or defer initiatives that conflict with agreed sequencing

Product

  • Ensure roadmap sequencing reflects company priorities
  • Identify conflicts between product development and broader company commitments
  • Track delivery milestones for platform releases

Client, Growth, and Engagement

  • Maintain oversight of prospect and client pipeline (especially in relation to capacity)
  • Ensure commercial commitments reflect practical deliverables
  • Support prioritisation of strategic institutional engagements
  • Track follow-through on key client and partner discussions
  • Represent the company’s leadership with clients and public engagements

Content and Marketing

  • Align publications and report releases with company priorities
  • Ensure external messaging reflects delivery focus
  • Support preparation for strategic public engagements

Operations

  • Work with the Director of Operations and the Ops team to align hiring, resourcing, and operational needs with strategic sequencing
  • Surface structural bottlenecks and provide solutions
  • Improve planning discipline across teams

Data & Research Delivery

  • Maintain visibility across the advisory and research portfolio
  • Identify delivery risks when discussing with prospects and plan accordingly
  • Support Director of Operations and Research team in monitoring and managing delivery output, quality, and costs

Founder Extension

The Chief of Staff works directly with the Founder to:

  • Convert strategic direction into defined execution plans
  • Prepare structured briefs before major decisions (e.g. during Directors’ meetings)
  • Track executive decisions and ensure follow-through
  • Reduce routine alignment escalations
  • Ensure external engagements translate into internal action

Candidate Profile

This role requires senior-level execution capability and independent, organisational judgement.

Experience

  • 7–10 years (or more) in strategy, consulting, research-led organisations, data businesses or complex growth environments
  • Experience managing multi-department execution and teams
  • Exposure to and direct relations with institutional clients, executives, government agencies, and multi-stakeholder environments
  • Experience operating in and/or with emerging markets is a must

Capabilities

  • Strong analytical and structuring ability, including excel, presentations, and writing
  • Comfortable managing trade-offs under capacity constraints
  • Able to enforce accountability across senior teams
  • Superb upward and downward communication
  • Calm in high-pressure environments
  • Clear, direct communicator
  • Independent judgement

What success looks like in 12 months

  • Cross-departmental metrics overseen and tracked accurately
  • Quarterly execution plans delivered with consistency and well communicated
  • Reduced cross-department friction and faster ‘fires detection and extinction’
  • Improved alignment between growth commitments and delivery capacity
  • Greater predictability in product releases and research output
  • Hiring and resourcing aligned with sequencing decisions
  • Tangible increase in volume of output and speed of execution
  • Reduced need for routine Founder and Directors' intervention in execution conflicts
