Agri-insurance for smallholder farmers

Economic losses due to climate change have increased sevenfold from the 1970s to the 2010s. Scientists predict that climate change-driven events will only become more frequent in the coming years. The impacts of climate change are more pronounced in low- and middle-income countries, where a large proportion of the population depends on climate-vulnerable sectors such as agriculture.

While agricultural insurance is a powerful tool to reduce vulnerability and help smallholder households adapt to climate change, the adoption rate of agricultural insurance among smallholder farmers remains significantly low.

The State of the Sector: Agri-Insurance for Smallholder Farmers Report presents the current state of agri-insurance for smallholder households, introduces new ways of thinking about the sector and much more.
