Farmer Impact Survey Guide: A Toolkit for Impact Measurement for AgTech Innovators

Measuring impact is no longer optional for agricultural technology companies operating in emerging markets. Investors, donors, and partners increasingly expect organisations to demonstrate not just reach, but genuine outcomes for the farmers and communities they serve. Yet for many early-stage and resource-constrained AgTechs, knowing where to start, and how to do it rigorously without a dedicated research team, remains a real challenge.

This toolkit, developed by 60 Decibels in collaboration with Mercy Corps AgriFin, offers a practical starting point. It is designed for AgTech companies and agricultural innovators working with smallholder farmers who want to collect meaningful self-reported impact data without the burden of a full third-party evaluation.

The guide walks users through the full measurement cycle, from sampling and researcher training to survey administration and metric calculation. The customer survey covers four areas:

  1. Farmer satisfaction through the Net Promoter Score,
  2. Challenges with the product or service
  3. Quality of life change
  4. Shifts in production and income.

Beyond external reporting, the data gathered can directly inform product design, improve customer engagement, and support better internal decision-making.
